Few photographers have captured more iconic shots of rock artists than Mick Rock. His life and art are now being celebrated with a new documentary called Shot!

The film, which hits theaters, streaming and downloading services on April 7, tells the story of Rock's life behind the camera, but also his time spent with the countless artists he photographed over the years. His legendary photos of Queen, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Ramones and Blondie are among the world's most famous.

He also captured David Bowie in his element. "I hadn't done a lot of performance photography 'til David came along," Rock says in the movie's trailer, which you can watch above. "It was all designed to give people the idea that, 'I don't know who he is, but he's got a personal photographer, he must be a big deal.'"

Rock's photos have graced many classic album covers, including Reed's Transformer, the Stooges' Raw Power and Queen's second album. "In the height of the moment I say assassin, because that's what I feel like," Rock says about being armed with a camera. "I'm gonna take you out. I want that feeling."

The film also delves into Rock's drug use, which, at one point, almost killed him. Despite those missteps, Rock notes, "I always knew this was the life I was meant to live. I'm like a thief in the night."

Shot! premieres on Amazon Video, OnDemand and iTunes on the same day it hits select theaters. You can find more information at the film's official site.
