According to a notice posted on the front entrance, the Wappingers Falls Speedway will officially close on Monday, June 15th, 2026. The message thanked customers for their support over the years and encouraged them to continue visiting nearby Speedway locations in Poughkeepsie and Fishkill.

The notice reads:

"We are sad to report that our Wappinger Falls location will be closing permanently on June 15th. Thank you for your continued support throughout the years. Please come on in, say goodbye, and shop some great deals! Please continue to shop at our Poughkeepsie and Fishkill locations nearby!"

Will It Become a 7-Eleven?

After seeing the sign, I called the store and spoke with an employee who confirmed that the store is closing permanently. The employee also said they were unaware of any plans to convert the location into a 7-Eleven.

That detail is significant because many residents have assumed that former Speedway locations would eventually become 7-Eleven stores following the company's acquisition of Speedway in 2020.

The speculation isn't surprising. When 7-Eleven purchased Speedway in a massive $21 billion deal, the company announced plans to convert thousands of Speedway stores across the country into 7-Eleven locations.

Since then, several former Speedway stores have been rebranded, leading many to believe that every closed Speedway location would eventually follow the same path. At this point, it remains unclear what will happen to the Wappingers Falls property once the store closes. When that information is available, we will update this article.

For now, customers have just a few more weeks to grab a coffee, fuel up, and say goodbye before the longtime Wappingers Falls Speedway closes its doors for the final time on June 15th. Speedway has locations across the Hudson Valley, including stores on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie (2545 South Rd) and Fishkill (480 US-9).
