Hudson Valley Underage Drinking Crackdown Announced For April

Authorities will be on the lookout for Hudson Valley businesses that are breaking the law as the New York State Liquor Authority cracks down on underage drinking this month. As part of the enforcement, they will visit 500 bars, restaurants, liquor stores and grocery stores looking for fake IDs and those who sell alcohol to minors.

New York law states anyone under 21 caught with a fake ID can be arrested and have their real license revoked from 90 days up to a year. A business caught selling alcohol to minors can be fined up to $10,000 per violation and can have their liquor license suspended or revoked for multiple violations. Employees of those business' can be arrested and charged with a misdemeanor as well.

According to a press release from Governor Cuomo's office, the SLA issued 1,090 penalties to retailers who served minors. SLA Chairman Vincent Bradley had this to say, 'It is a priority for the State Liquor Authority to prevent the sale of alcohol to minors and our responsibility to make sure businesses are following the law. Working with the DMV enables us to target both businesses selling to minors as well as those attempting to purchase fake IDs.'
