Temperatures in the Hudson Valley are expected to spike again today as the heat wave continues. But there may be some cooler conditions coming.

A "heat wave" isn't actually a technical term, rather a way to describe some unusually warm weather. The National Weather Service says a heat wave usually refers to a period of abnormally and uncomfortably hot and humid weather that lasts two or more days.

The Hudson Valley has seen temperatures spike in the 90s accompanied by a wall of humidity that's blanketed the area since the weekend. Tuesday is not expected to be any better. The Weather Channel is calling for a high of 92 degrees in Poughkeepsie today.

The good news is that relief is on the way. Some widely scattered thunderstorms may blow through our area this afternoon and early evening bringing more tolerable conditions. Tomorrow's high temperature is expected to be back down in the mid 80s where it will stay for the rest of the week.
