In addition to the election of Donald Trump as president, a number of key elections were held in the Hudson Valley.

Congressional District 19: Zephyr Teachout (D) vs. John Faso (R)

Republican John Faso edged out Democrat Zephyr Teachout 51.6% to 42.7%

The two were competing for the seat vacated by Republican Chris Gibson who decided not to run for a fourth term.

Teachout, who had the support of Bernie Sanders, lost to Andrew Cuomo in the 2014 gubernatorial primary. However, she won in landslide votes in a number of local counties Hudson Valley counties that she was hoping to represent.

Congressional District 18: Sean Patrick Maloney (D) vs. Phil Oliva (R)

Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney picked up his third victory in the 18 district, defeating Republican Phil Oliva 50.5% to 41% State Senate District 39: Chris

State Senate District 39: Chris Eachus (D) vs. Bill Larkin (R)

Incumbent Republican Senator William Larkin Jr. is going to continue to represent the 39th Senate District for his 13-term.

Larkin wiped out Democrat Christopher Eachus 53.2% to 38.6%

In 2012, Eachus finished within five points of beating Larkin. This time, Eachus supporters claimed Larkin may be too old to continue to be an effective senator because Larkin missed 166 votes in this year’s session and the 88-year-old Korean War veteran obeyed doctors’ orders to not campaign this fall, according to Politco.

State Senate District 41: Terry Gipson (D) vs. Sue Serino (R)
For the second time, Republican Sue Serino held off a challenge from Democrat Terry Gibson.

In 2012, Terry Gipson unseated incumbent Republican Stephen Saland, largely due to another candidate who ran against Saland.

Serino then defeated Gipson in 2014, by 4.5 points.

Experts say, Hudson Valley Democrats usually get a five point bump in presidential years, making this year’s race hard to predict.

However, this year Sernio won by over 9 points.

State Senate District 40: Ali Boak (D) vs. Terrence Murphy (R)

Incumbent Republican Terrence Murphy will continue to represent the 40 Senate District. Murphy crushed Democrat Alison Boak, 54.9% to 38.8%

The seat has been held by Republicans for decades.

In the 94th Assembly District, Republican Kevin Byrne overpowered Democrat Brian Higbie by over 28 points.

Sandra Galef, Democrat, topped Gregory Purdy, Republican, 51.6% to 37.4%.
