Goshen Woman Suing Over Terrifying Discovery in her Coconut Water
Barbara Kline of Goshen is suing Vita Coco after drinking a stomach-turning box of their coconut water.
The Hudson Valley woman's story was featured on Buzzfeed this week and has been freaking out the Internet ever since.
Not for the faint of heart, Kline's discovery in the bottom of her coconut water looks like something out of a science fiction movie. After swallowing a "chunk" in her water Kline immediately knew something was wrong and dumped it out. She noticed the water was a strange color and felt things moving around inside the carton.
The experience was very different than the refreshing drink Chrissy Teigen takes in Coco Vita's latest commercial, so Kline decided to investigate further. She opened the box and was horrified to find a disgusting "octopus looking" lump of goo inside the container. It's believed that the goo is actually a giant piece of slimy mold that somehow grew inside the drink.
Buzzfeed posted a photo of the nasty creature on their website. Before clicking the link be warned that you can never unsee this.
Vita Coco responded to Buzzfeed's article with the following statement:
Vita Coco is a preservative-free beverage made from naturally-occurring ingredients. While the consumer has yet to return the product for testing, this looks like typical food spoilage... This consumer's product was likely left opened, improperly refrigerated, or damaged, and after reviewing the images she has posted, we are confident it is mold growth.
That explanation hasn't made Kline feel any better about her encounter. She says the box was factory sealed and all of the manufacturer's storage suggestions were followed. Kline claims she's deathly allergic to mold and has been left with diarrhea, nausea and asthma symptoms. She tells Buzzfeed that she's planning a lawsuit.
This isn't the first time disgusting mold has been found in the bottom of a coconut water container. These videos have been posted by other grossed out customers.
