The first Saturday of every May is known as Free Comic Book Day. It's the one day a year when the comic book industry shares their love of comics by giving them away for free!  The first Free Comic Book Day was held in 2002 and since then millions of free comics have been given away to fans both new and old.

Of course, you can't just walk into any comic book store and grab a rare vintage Spiderman.  There are specific comics set aside for this day and even brand new limited-edition comics produced specifically to appeal to new fans and thank existing comic book enthusiasts for supporting the industry.

To participate in Free Comic Book Day, check out these local participating stores.  It may be smart to call ahead to find out any details, as there may be lines forming before doors officially open:
