It seems to be a common thing nowadays across the Hudson Valley: stores coming and going.

First it was Modell's, Office Depot, J.C. Penny and now the Sports Authority.

The Sports Authority in the Town of Ulster has announced that they will be closing the sports store on Christmas Eve December 24th.

According to the Daily Freeman, the closing was announced thru email to its local customers. The email also stated that some clearance items are being marked down by 40 percent.

This is the second major sports store to close in the town since last year. The Modell's store, which was across the street in the King's Mall, closed its doors about a year ago.

James Quigley the town of Ulster supervisor told the Freeman that the loss of Sports Authority, along with other nearby retailers, worries him.

“I am concerned about the overall retail market in the town of Ulster and what it means for sales tax collections to Ulster County and ultimately to the towns.”

There is no word on how many people are going to be out of job at this time.
