There really is no way to repay a veteran for all that he, or she, has done for our country. The sacrifices made and often, the injuries sustained, make it hard to simply say thank you, you want to do more. That's exactly what Ulster County Executive Mike Hein is trying to do.

Back in 2012, Ulster County Executive Mike Hein updated property tax exemptions to provide property tax relief to veterans, seniors, and first time home buyers. This month, he has signed legislation that would increase these exemptions for Ulster County veterans.

Based on new exemption levels recently adopted by the New York State Legislation, this new law raises the ceiling for property tax exemptions extended to honorably discharged veterans and Cold-War veterans to $45,000, with an additional exemption of up to $30,000 for those veterans who served in a combat zone. The law also provides an additional exemption of up to $150,000 for those veterans who have suffered a military service-related disability.
