The Metal Box is a weekly web series posted each Friday where we discuss all things hard rock and heavy metal: news, videos, interviews, live concerts and more.

This week, we have an interview with sing Janet Gardner of all female 80's metal band Vixen. We talk about her new solo album and upcoming tour, along with what it was like during the heyday for Vixen touring with some of the world's biggest rock bands. Watch above for the full interview.

Vixen achieved success in the late 1980's and early 1990's as part of the Los Angeles hair metal scene. The band was hailed as the "Female Bon Jovi"  when they released self-titled debut album Vixen in 1988 featuring the hits "Edge of a Broken Heart" and "Cryin'." The band's second album Rev It Up  was released in 1990 and featured the single "How Much Love". Tickets for Janet Gardner with guests: Mama Doom, Gregg Woods, and Rock Boxx in The Loft at The Chance in Poughkeepsie on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7:30pm are on sale and available through ticketweb.com and the Chance box office at 845-471-1966. Check out the new video for the single "Rat Hole" below.
