Happy Birthday today (Sept. 7) to Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders. She’s 66. Also celebrating is former Bang Tango guitarist Kyle Stevens (49).

Chrissy Hynde formed The Pretenders in England in March of 1978 with the original lineup featuring Hynde on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, James Honeyman-Scott on lead vocals and keyboards, Pete Farndon on bass, and Martin Chambers on drums. After the passing of Honeyman-Scott and Farndon due to drug related reasons, the band would experience numerous personnel changes with Hynde being the only consistent member, and Chambers eventually returning after being absent from the band for several years. The Pretenders were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and Chrissie Hynde released her first solo album ‘Stockholm’ in 2014. The Pretenders put out a new album called Alone in 2016 and the band toured with Stevie Nicks last Fall. Check out the official Pretenders website here.

Cheers to the always rockin Chrissie Hynde on her birthday today! I gotta admit, I always liked the Pretenders and i'll even admit I'm a sucker for a good power ballad. Big fan of their 1994 hit "I'll Stand By You". See the video below.
