Over 52,000 households in the Hudson Valley lost power following a Orange & Rockland (O&R) Utilities equipment failure Saturday.

An overhead line failed at the O&R Shoemaker substation in Middletown at 7:20PM, resulting in 52,476 customers left in the dark in Orange and Sullivan counties in New York and Pike County in Pennsylvania, according to a press release from the utility company.

O&R restored power to 99 percent of customers by 3AM Sunday morning, with all service restored by 5AM.

The overhead line failure resulting in adjacent equipment automatically shutting down, with some 13 electric substations taken offline during the outage.

O&R is investigating the cause of the overhead line failure, which is not yet known.

The New York Department of Public Service is also investigating the incident, according to a press release from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office.
