Spoiler Alert: New York is *%@&!# Expensive
How far will $100 get you in New York compared to every other state?
Have you ever wondered how strong the dollar is when traveling domestically? For example, $100 will get you much further in Mississippi than it will here in New York.
Research has found that you can stretch a $100 bill the furthest in the following states:
- Mississippi - $116.01
- Alabama - $115.21
- Arkansas - $114.42
- South Dakota - $113.28
- Kentucky - $112.87
Sadly, New York didnt make the Top 5, or the Top 10, 20, 30, or even 40 for that matter. The only two places where a $100 is worth less than here in New York are Hawaii and the District of Columbia.
New York is ranked 49th, and $100 is worth $86.73. That's a big difference compared to other states.
The states with the least bang for your buck are Hawaii where $100 is only worth $84.18. Not far behind are the District of Columbia ($85.47), New York ($86.73), New Jersey ($88.18), and California ($88.18).
There are three states where $100 is actually worth $100, according to Tax Foundation:
- Oregon - $100.81
- Florida - $100.50
- Illinois - $100.30
