ORIGINAL STORY:

A South Carolina police officer has been charged with murder, after a video shows him shooting a fleeing, unarmed man in the back.

North Charleston Police Officer Michael T. Slager, 33 is shown on video shooting 50-year old Walter Scott after a confrontation over the weekend. The video shows Slager shooting at Scott eight times.

The video was recorded by a passerby. Scott was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by The Huffington Post.

The situation started after the officer pulled Scott over for a broken taillight, which then then turned into a foot chase. The victim had allegedly fled because of family court warrants that had been issued.

Slager chased Scott to a grassy area where he claimed he used his taser to subdue the man. He then reported on his radio “Shots fired and the subject is down. He took my Taser.”

The video shows the victim running away from the officer, before shots were fired. The officer then runs over and places handcuffs on the wounded man. Police reports say that responding officers performed CPR on the victim, but the video shows Scott handcuffed face down for several minutes.

Scott had been arrested 10 times in the past, mostly for failing to pay child support.
