Senator holding conference on train safety almost gets hit… by a train!

Luckily, what could have easily turned into a terribly ironic tragedy, wound up being nothing more than a painfully embarrassing moment caught on video.

Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal was holding a press conference on train safety at the Milford Metro-North station.  Sounds like a great photo-op, but setting up a podium at the very end of the platform, where bright yellow lines warn people to stand clear was probably not the brightest idea.  Milford Mayor Ben Blake was saying "safety, as you know, is paramount..."  as a train started to bear down on the station.  The crowd held their breath and watched helplessly as Blumenthal was almost flattened.  After a terrifying few seconds, everyone breathed a sigh of relief and now this idiotic moment is preserved forever on YouTube:
