Robert De Niro Fighting for Tax Break in the Town of Gardiner
Lawyers for actor, and part time Gardiner resident, Robert De Niro are suing the town to lower the tax cost on his 78 acre property, according to a report from the Times Herald Record. The lawyers from his trust had originally sued for a reduction in property assessments for 2010 through 2013, and lost. Now they are appealing to the state's third appellate division, looking for a reduction in the estate's current market-value assessment of $5.6 million to $3.7 million. This would be a 33% drop (or about $57,000 dollars) off of his taxes. According to reports, his property's current tax bill is almost $170,000, including $45,848 in town and county taxes, and $124,021 in school district taxes.
Some in the town of Gardiner aren't so happy that the famous actor worth, about $200 million, is looking for a tax break.
