Police: Woman Attempts to Pass Fake Payroll Check in Orange County

A Westchester, NY woman was arrested after attempting to cash a fake payroll check from a Dutchess County hospital at a bank in Orange County. 

On Wednesday, state police responded to a local bank in the Montgomery area for a report of a woman attempting pass a fictitious check which was purported to be a payroll check from a hospital in Dutchess County, NY.

The woman was identified as Alexandria S. Clarke, 18, of Cortlandt, NY.  Had Clarke succeeded in cashing the fraudulent check she would have defrauded the financial institution out of an amount exceeding $1,000 dollars, according to a press release.

Clarke was charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument second-degree, and Attempted Grand Larceny fourth-degree, both felonies.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Clarke was arraigned in the Village of Walden Court  and remanded to Orange County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond. She is due back in court at a later date.
