Following a manhunt in the woods three teens were arrested in connection with a string of thefts in Hudson Valley. Police say the trio stole motorcycles, guns, ammo and more.

Early Saturday morning, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office began receiving multiple calls from residents in the Wildwood Knolls neighborhood in Putnam Valley. Several callers reported that their vehicles, parked in their driveways, were broken into during the overnight hours.

One person said that a detached garage on an Evergreen Way property was broken into and two motorcycles were stolen.

Another resident reported that his loaded handgun was stolen from his car.

Around 2:45 p.m., one of the alleged victims noticed two men driving an ATV in the neighborhood and believed the two were involved in the thefts. The person called 911 and followed the ATV.

The ATV later collided with ensuing car while trying to flee, police say. The two men jumped off the ATV and fled to the woods after a brief confrontation.

A search for the suspects ensued, involving about a dozen sheriff’s deputies and investigators, a K-9 unit and a New York State Police helicopter.

Police were able to identify the at-large suspects through witness interviews and security camera video recordings, authorities say.

An investigator then called the cellphone of one of the suspects and was able to persuade him and his accomplice to come out of the woods and surrender to authorities.

After the pair surrendered the stolen handgun and ammunition were found in the woods. Two stolen motorcycles were also found, according to police.

The two men who fled into the woods were a 17-year-old and a 16-year old from Putnam Valley.

The 17-year-old was charged with two-counts of grand larceny and two-counts of criminal possession of stolen property, all felonies. The 16-year-old was charged with grand larceny and two-counts of criminal possession of stolen property, all felonies

As the investigation continued, police alleged that a third still at-large suspect stole a motorcycle and a rifle.

The third suspect, a 15-year-old man was soon arrested and charged with two-counts of criminal possession of stolen property, felonies.

A search warrant at one of the teen’s homes found a number of previously reported stolen items from from vehicle break-ins in the area over the last several months, police say.
