Police: Expect Massive Traffic Delays Due to Woodstock Events

Prepare for traffic nightmares in the Hudson Valley due to the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival at Bethel Woods.

The New York State Police announced they are expecting unusually long delays coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival on Route 17 and Route 17b in Sullivan County beginning Thursday, August 15 until Sunday, August 18.

Traffic is expected to be particularly heavy on Route 17 westbound between the New York State Thruway tolls in Harriman and exit 104 onto Route 17b in Monticello, police say.

Peak traffic for westbound lanes is anticipated between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and eastbound between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., according to New York State Police.

Police advise motorists to make alternate travel plans and avoid unnecessary travel near Bethel Woods during 50th Anniversary Weekend if you have no plans to attend.

If you are attending, it's advised you leave earlier than you plan to. It's also recommended to make sure you have plenty of gas in your vehicle and food and drinks available.

Additionally, heavy traffic at ST-17 exit 104 westbound may necessitate detours being put into place and motorists should be aware of alternate routes and plan for these detours and heavy traffic accordingly, police say.
