So, a police officer in Mountain View, CA pulled over a vehicle for driving too slowly on Thursday. The Mountain View Police Dept says the vehicle was going 24 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone. with traffic backing up behind it.

Doesn't sound like too big of a deal, right? Thing is, there was no one behind the wheel.

There was, however, a passenger. The officer asked the passenger how the car was choosing speeds along certain roadways.

In a Google Plus post, the Google Self-Driving Car Project pled guilty to slow driving.

We've capped the speed of our prototype vehicles at 25 mph for safety reasons. We want them to feel friendly and approachable, rather than zooming scarily through neighborhood streets.

In the end, the officer determined the car had not broken the law. No ticket was issued.

The Google Self driving Car is a project by Google X that involves developing technology for autonomous cars, according to Wikipedia.

Legislation has been passed in four U.S. states and Washington DC allowing driverless cars.  Nevada, Florida, California, and Michigan currently allow the autonomous vehicles. A proposal in the state of Texas is currently setting criteria for allowing the vehicles on the road.

Google plans to make these cars available to the public in 2020
