NY Man Attempts to Steal Trailer From Truck Stop

A man attempted to drive off with a trailer from a truck stop, before being stopped by State troopers. 

David S. Crewell, 43, of Esperance, New York failed at becoming the next truck stop bandit, after troopers spotted him trying to drive off with a stolen trailer from a truck stop.

State Troopers responded to a Columbia County 911 call of a suspicious person at the Canaan Truck Stop. A witness observed Crewell remove a lock from a refrigerated trailer that was stored at the truck stop. The witness knew the trailer did not belong to Crewell, according to a press release.

When troopers arrived at the scene, they observed Crewell trying to leave the truck stop with the trailer attached at a 1999 Kenworth truck. A traffic stop was conducted and Crewell was taken into custody.

Crewell was charged with Grand Larceny in the fourth-degree, and Criminal Mischief. He was arraigned and released on $500 cash bail. He is due back in court at a later date.
