Newburgh Man Found Guilty of Murder
The ringleader of a botched fatal robbery in Newburgh was found guilty of murder. The Newburgh man is the third person guilty of the murder of a 63-year-old.
On Friday in Orange County Court, a jury found 26-year-old Omarrio Morrison of Newburgh guilty of murder, attempted murder, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of tampering with physical evidence in connection with the shooting death of a man during a botched robbery in the City of Newburgh.
During the trial, prosecutors argued Morrison planned to rob 63-year-old Raul Diaz-Martinez and recruited Dejoire Fox, 21, and a 17-year-old from Newburgh to commit the actual robbery, supplying both with guns.
Fox and the 17-year-old both previously pleaded guilty to murder.
Prosecutors claimed Fox entered the victim’s apartment to commit the robbery and fatally shot the 63-year-old.
“The jury’s verdict was clearly supported by the evidence,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said in a press release. “This defendant planned the robbery and then recruited others to carry it out. His cowardly attempt to insulate himself from criminal liability failed."
Morrison faces 25 years to life in prison when sentenced in July.
