Craft beer continues it's rise in popularity and New York state is certainly one of the frontrunners in the nation for producing great brews. Now, two men want to turn the old meat packing plant on Henry Street in Middletown into one of the region's next big craft brew producers. Ricardo Petroni of Mahwah, N.J., and Peter Oates of Rock Hill joined officials this week at Middletown City Hall to announce the new Equilibrium Brewery project. They're hoping the new brewery will be open by November of 2015.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $1.9 million. Financing is still being worked out, but officials said the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council endorsed Equilibrium as a priority in its 2014 round of competitive funding. Other possible funding sources could include a Small Business Administration loan or incentives from the city’s Industrial Development Agency.
