In order to make the military more equal for women, officials say it's only a matter of time before young American females will be forced to register for the draft alongside their male counterparts.

The controversial comments were made by Army Secretary John McHugh during an annual conference on Monday at Walter E. Washington convention center in Washington, D.C. According to Military.com, McHugh told the crowd,

If your objective is true and pure equality then you have to look at all aspects (of the roles of women in the military)... registration for the draft will be one of those things that will have to be considered.

McHugh said that if the military wants to give women equal opportunities, than including them in the draft is part of that. Making it mandatory for women to register for the draft isn't up to the Department of Defense, however. The change in policy is something that would need to go through Congress.

Currently, almost 17 million men between the ages of 18 and 25 are registered for with the Selective Service System. According to the law, young men must register within 30 days of turning 18. Violations can be considered felonies punishable by law.

We want to know what you think. Should women have to register alongside men for the draft? Or do you think that the change is going too far?
