A 23-year-old Scarsdale man has been charged with homicide after a wrong-way crash early Sunday on Interstate 684. Alcohol may have played a factor.

Police say that Zachary L. Tokson was a traveling on northbound in the southbound lanes on I-684 in Beford. Shortly after 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Tokson’s 2003 Lexus collided head-on with a 2001 Ford Focus driven by Eleana Lopez, 64, of Mount Kisco. Lopez was the only occupant of her car and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Following the crash, Tokson’s car was hit by a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Paula Pineheiro-Aloy, 44, from Ridgefield, Connecticut. Tokson and his passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Westchester Medical. Pineheiro-Aloy and her passenger were not hurt.

Police believe Tokson traveled the wrong-way on I-684 after stopping at the Bedford Rest Area. An investigation is ongoing to determine if alcohol played a factor in the crash. Tokson was charged with criminally negligent homicide. He was arraigned in the Town of Bedford Court and sent to Westchester County Jail in in lieu of $75,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. He is due back in court on Wednesday December 16.
