Lower Hudson Valley Grocery Store Denies Firefighters Water?

The incident allegedly took place at a Stop & Shop store in Dobbs Ferry.

According to News 12, local firefighters were battling a fire across the street from the Stop & Shop store when firefighters went into the grocery store to get cases of water for the men and women battling the blaze.

A letter from a former chief of the fire department stated that the firefighters went into the store and asked for cases of water for the firefighters, which the store could later bill the department for.

The store refused and forced the firefighters to pay out of pocket for the water on the spot and they couldn't be billed for it all while the fire across the street was still being battled.

After the incident occurred the store did issue the following statement, according to News 12:

"We want to apologize to the Dobbs Ferry firefighters and to the Dobbs Ferry community in general. This poor decision should have never occurred, does not reflect our values as a company and is inconsistent with the support that Stop & Shop has shown for the Dobbs Ferry community over the years. Firefighters are valued community members who risk their lives daily to protect our community and they deserve our respect.
