An Ulster County restaurant that once received some backlash from the community, but then became a local favorite, is sadly closing their doors.

Burger Bar Upsets a Ulster County Community

Back in 2019, word started to spread that a new burger bar was going to call Rosendale, New York home. The tightknit Ulster County community questioned the new addition to their town.

It was reported back then that locals were a bit critical of the Santa Fe Burger Bar moving in. They planned on serving grass fed serve grass-fed burgers, amazing milkshakes, salads and other fun menu items.

One of the bigger concerns was that the Rosendale location was the 4th location in the area, making some think it was a "chain" restaurant.

Annie Demosthenes, co-owner of Santa Fe Burger Bar, posted to Facebook at the time to introduce herself and her family to the critics and explain that they are locals through and through. She wrote "We DO NOT consider ourselves a chain business. We aren’t owned by a corporation and we do not franchise our business. All 4 of our restaurants are locally-based and all our employees are local residents."

The other Santa Fe locations are in Kingston, Tivoli and Woodstock.

Santa Fe Burger Bar in Rosendale Announces Closure

When the Santa Fe Burger Bar officially opened in the fall of 2019, Demosthenes shared that they were in a 5 year lease but hoped to " exercise an option to buy at the start of next year."

Unfortunately, Santa Fe Burger Bar wont be at their Rosendale location much longer.

Santa Fe Burger Bar in Rosendale announced that they would be closing in November of 2024. They wrote on social media:

Dear Valued Guests and Friends, we are sad to announce the permanent closing of Santa Fe Burger Bar in Rosendale, NY. After long consideration we have decided to close the restaurant, with our last day being Sunday, November 10, 2024.

There's no explanation as to why they are closing, but former customers seem to be upset about the closure.

One local wrote in the comment section of the announcement "Sad news, I live in town and consider myself a regular. I will miss you, please post if you relocate or try something new, you have my support."
