
Man Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle in Orange County, NY
A 47-year-old man has died after he was struck by a vehicle in Orange County, NY.
The Town of Cornwall Police Department is actively investigating a tragic accident after police said a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in the area of Angola Road in the town of Cornwall, NY.

The Town of Cornwall Police Department (CPD) said that on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, at approximately 8:38 p.m., Orange County 911 dispatched officers to a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in the area of 186 Angola Road in Cornwall, NY.

Upon arrival, officers began an investigation, which later revealed that a 2011 Toyota Rav 4 was traveling south on Angola Road when it struck a 47-year-old man, later identified as Juan Sumba of Queens, NY.
Man Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle in Cornwall, NY
Police said in a press release that the vehicle, which was being operated by 79-year-old Ira Margolis of Highland Mills, NY accidently struck Sumba on the road, causing serious injuries. Sumba, who was quickly transported by Cornwall EMS to St. Luke's in Newburgh, NY, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Police didn't say what led to the accident, but did say that Margolis remained at the scene of the accident and was fully cooperative. Police also said that although the accident remains under investigation by CPD's Detective unit, they do not expect the driver to be charged with a crime at this time.
