The Town of Wappinger is introducing some new neighbors you may see over the next few weeks.

With that being said, these aren't your typical neighbors. Let us explain.

Town of Wappinger Introduces New Neighbors: Meet the Goats!

Yes, you read that right. The new additions to the Town of Wappinger are goats!

In statement shared to social media Town of Wappinger explains:

The Town of Wappinger has collaborated with the Kolb Family and Carnwath Community Farming to naturally clear overgrown areas at Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park.

 

The goats will be put to work "eating invasive plant species, helping restore and beautify" the community spaces. The goats are named Reggie, Franklin, and Honey.

Town of Wappinger Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini said in the statement  “We are proud to continue finding creative, environmentally responsible ways to improve our parks while delivering real savings for Wappinger taxpayers.”

Goats Play an Important Role in Cleaning Up Town of Wappinger

The goats will be working hard at Carnwath Farms Historic Site.

According to the statement the goats are eating their way "throughout Carnwath's 99 acres, with plans to expand this natural clearing method to help manage overgrown areas across the Town's nearly 1,000 acres of public land."


Additionally, the Town of Wappinger shares that this new approach of maintaining their parks will be a money saver.

In the statement they break it down writing "this innovative approach allows the Town to maintain and improve our parks while saving taxpayer money, without adding any extra cost to Town residents!"

Can You Meet the New Town Of Wappinger Goats?

While the goats will be working, you can still swing by to say hi.

The Town of Wappinger said in their statement "If you visit Carnwath Farms, be sure to stop by and see our newest employees in action!"

With that being said, just make sure to remember the goats will be working in areas of poison ivy, so make sure you're admiring Franklin, Reggie and Honey from a safe distance "and enter those areas at your own risk."
