Mystery Around A High School Ring From Middletown New York
I am of the age when class rings were a big deal. When you finally got to order one, you felt so grown up, like a senior, of course. I don't even know if they still do class rings. I am wondering about all of this because today I saw that the Enlarged City School District of Middletown is on the hunt for the owner of a class ring they received with a note.
Ring Found By A Person Fishing has a High School Community Solving a Mystery
It is a mystery similar to the Cinderella story. In the Fairy Tale, all they had then was a shoe, and in this case, all they have is a ring. A class ring with what appears to be a big ruby stone from the class of 1975 that was found by someone fishing.
Your mind starts racing. Could the person have lost it while swimming, maybe they were out on a boat? It is hard to put all that together because the note that was sent didn't specify what body of water they found it in; they just said near Otisville.
Thank you to the anonymous person who sent it to us! Now it's up to you. Do you recognize this ring? It's a red stone ring from the Class of 1975, with a Middie Bear on one side and Twin Towers on the other, back when it was Middletown High School. There is an engraving of initials on the inside, but we will keep that secret to help confirm the owner if they are found. (Enlarged City School District of Middletown via Facebook)
How Could This Middletown, New York, High School Ring Have Gone Missing
Then you think maybe the ring was given to someone; they did that back then. Girls wore guys' rings to signify a commitment. Maybe it ended badly, and she threw it in a lake, pond, or river, never to be seen again.

I am assuming it is a guy's ring because it looks large from the photos, but it could be a girl's class ring, too. The post asking for help locating the owner has many comments calling for the poster to check a 1975 yearbook book which it turns out some people still have. They also disclosed that the initials inside are "RG".
It appears they may be narrowing it down, and if they do, we will update you. First, they need to find the person, then hopefully we can find out how they lost the ring. I am rooting for a juicy story. It has to be, right? It turned up in a fishing hole.
