There's an exciting new restaurant in Newburgh, NY... if you can find it.

The Hudson Valley has seen many restaurants come and go. It's become so common that many local restaurant enthusiasts, myself included, try not to become attached to a new business too early for risk of heartbreak when the inevitable "closed" sign appears. Hopefully, there is a bright future ahead of Newburgh's newest addition, a delicious Spanish-inspired tapas restaurant and wine bar. To enjoy it, first you'll have to find it.

Bar Brava Is the Newest Restaurant to Open in Newburgh, NY

It's not that the restaurant, called Bar Brava, is hiding. In fact, it's smack in the middle of Broadway in Newburgh, NY. But with no website, no address on their Instagram account, and windows with pulled curtains and a front door with frosted glass (above), it's likely many have walked right past this new treasure being none the wiser.

Bar Brava in Newburgh, NY

Bar Brava is in its infancy, so they can hardly be blamed for the soft opening. Located at 96 Broadway in Newburgh, NY - the location of the late (and beloved) Mama Roux - Bar Brava was the perfect spot for a Friday date night with my wife. They are open Thursday-Saturday from 4pm-10pm and Sunday for brunch from 9am-3pm. If you visit, there are a few tips to keep in mind.

The Menu at Bar Brava in Newburgh, NY

Tapas are typically small plates of food meant to be enjoyed by a group of people, and Bar Brava has organized their menu into several sections. "Pintxos" are one (or two) bite snacks served individually. The Tortilla de Patata, a delicious mini-omelet, was our favorite and the fried eggplant (above) was delicious as well. Their "Tapas" section should be read more as "shareable plates", with dishes like their Ensalada Verde (green salad) and Bacalao a la Llauna (pan roasted cod) served as one medium-sized dish instead of several individual servings (below). Lastly their "Platos" (entrees) and paella are served in larger portions.

While the decor was much more restrained than the opulently-designed Mama Roux, the atmosphere was lovely, and the live DJ helped set a great mood for a romantic Friday night. Hopefully we won't have to say goodbye to this new addition anytime soon because there are plenty of other dishes we are still waiting to try. Buena suerte, Bar Brava!
