On Tuesday around 6:10 p.m., the City of Middletown Police Department was alerted via Orange County 911 to a reported domestic dispute involving a knife that was occurring in the area of 16 Orchard Street.

As officers responded to the area, a second call said a man had been stabbed in the chest and was located near 76 East Main Street.

Officers found the man, 17-year-old Roy Boyd of the City of Middletown, lying gravely injured on the sidewalk in front of #66 East Main Street, police say. Immediate lifesaving efforts were initiated by police. However,  Boyd was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

During the investigation, police learned Boyd and 19-year-old Brandon Royer engaged in a dispute with Chelsea Johnson, 19, who lives at the home on Orchard Street, police say. The home is located about 200 feet from Unitarian Universalist Church, according to Google Maps.

Royer and Johnson previously dated and reportedly had an argument over the phone earlier in the day and Royer drove with Boyd to the residence to confront Johnson, police say.

A verbal disagreement between Royer and Johnson then took place in the street in front of the home, where it is alleged that Johnson took out a knife and stabbed Boyd.

Boyd fled the scene on foot, collapsing in the area of 66 East Main Street.

Royer and Johnson continued their dispute and it's alleged Royer picked up a blunt object and threw it through a side window of Johnson’s home.

Royer was later found on East Main Street with Boyd. Royer was charged with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

Johnson was found at her home and charged with second-degree murder, a felony.

Boyd attended Middletown High School. School district staff is aware of the incident and has made grief counseling available to students and staff members that may need assistance, police say.
