A decorated Newburgh police officer was attacked by an angry mob as he tried to make an arrest.

Officer Brandon Rola was assaulted at around 2 a.m. Friday, and the attack was caught on surveillance camera. The video shows people flooding out of a nearby bar. Officer Rola was struck in the face repeatedly.

As reported by News 12, 27-year-old Starkita Burks attacked Officer Rola and broke his nose. The attack happened as the officer was approaching what he believed to be a possible riot. Others in the crowd held the officer down, as he was attacked.

Officer Rola was commended last November for saving two children trapped in a snowbank. The officer is recovering from his injuries.
