JC Penney announced that 138 of their stores would be closing down this year. Three of them are in New York and one is in the Hudson Valley.

As we reported a few weeks ago, the company decided to close the underperforming stores this year in an effort to fix the JC Penney's bottom line, which has been struggling over the past few years.  Two years ago the JC Penney at the Hudson Valley Mall in Kingston was shuttered because it was underperforming.

This time around the remaining locations in the Mid Hudson Region have been spared from the chopping block. JC Penney stores in the Poughkeepsie Galleria and the Galleria at Crystal Run will both remain open. Another popular location in the Lower Hudson Valley, however, is on the list of stores that will close.

USA Today reported a full list of the 138 doomed stores and it looks like the JC Penney located at the Palisades Center in West Nyack is scheduled to be closing this year.  The closure is expected to happen sometime during the second quarter. A liquidation sale will be held starting April 17.
