Hudson Valley Bicyclist Struck by Car
A Hudson Valley man was struck by a car while riding his bike on Sunday.
According to Riverhead Local, Nelson Aaron of Newburgh attempted to make a left hand turn on his bike when a car approaching from the opposite lane ran into him.
The 58-year-old Hudson Valley man was in Riverhead, Long Island when the incident happened. Police say a local resident named Julio David Duarte was driving a 2000 Nissan around 1:40 pm on Sunday when he struck Aaron on his bicycle. Upon impact,the Newburgh man was thrown from his bike. Police found him lying in the road when they arrived to the scene.
The 51-year-old driver had his car impounded by police for a safety check. Authorities also took Aaron's bicycle for further inspection. Duarte was given a summons for operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Aaron was sent to Stony Brook University hospital for injuries that, according to police, were not life threatening.
