A local actress stars in an upcoming movie regarding a Hurricane Katrina conspiracy.

Juliette Bennett from Stone Ridge stars in the independent feature thriller “The Nth Ward.” The film tells the story of Madison, played by Bennett, an engineer with the US Army Corps who is sent to New Orleans to evaluate the damage, years after the hurricane. Madison’s investigation leads her down a path of political deceit mixed with the supernatural.

"It was inspiring and fun to play a strong woman fighting so many forces of evil and corruption. But it is also a thriller and I loved the interplay of many elements of that genre,” Bennett told Hudson Valley Post.

A year and a half ago Bennett and her husband bought a 1780s Stone House in Stone Ridge. The home came with 32 acres of fields, which is currently being restored to hay.

A 19th century barn and corn crib are also on property. Bennett hopes to restore both, including turning the barn into a performance space.

“Our memories of living in the Hudson Valley are new but still treasured,” Bennett said. “This is an incredible area to meet and be inspired by other actors, musicians, writers and artists of all kinds.”

In a short amount of time in the local area, Bennett has already made a number of treasured memories.

“I love listening to great music in Kingston and New Paltz, growing my own vegetables and visiting a local farm to buy eggs that were just laid by their chickens and geese, “ she said.

“The Nth Ward,” is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Camille Brown.

“It was a thrill to work with Camille Brown, a hugely talented writer, director and producer, who overcame daunting obstacles to bring from LA a first rate crew, hunted for amazing locations, and found amazing local talent,” Bennett said.

Amazon will release “The Nth Ward,”on Tuesday, August 29, the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
