Deep frying a turkey is one of the most delicious ways to prepare Thanksgiving dinner, and also one of the most dangerous. Here's how you can do it safely.

We spoke with Chris Tompkins from the Crooked Rooster on Route 55 in Poughkeepsie. Tompkins is an expert when it comes to preparing Thanksgiving meals, and he shared some important advice and safety tips for deep frying your bird.

Surprisingly, it doesn't take much special equipment or effort to make the switch from the oven to the deep fryer, but the process does require planning and attention to detail.

Properly thawing out and preparing your turkey is important, and it's also necessary to make sure you know exactly how much oil you will need ahead of time. Guesstimating on how much liquid your turkey will displace is probably the number one reason those pots overflow and cause fires.

Be sure to watch the video for all of Tompkins' tips on deep frying your own turkey. Or, if you want to make things even easier you can just let the Crooked Rooster take care of the cooking for you. They're located on Route 55 in Poughkeepsie.
