Fundraising Efforts For Former Hudson Valley Man Injured In Recent Terrorist Attack
Efforts have begun to raise funds for a man with Hudson Valley connections who was injured in the recent terrorist attack in Brussels. Sebastian Bellin played basketball for the Poughkeepsie based Marist College Red Foxes from 96-98. He was seriously injured when bombs ripped through the Brussels Airport as he was waiting to board a plane to re-unite with his family.
Close friend and Marist classmate Danny Hagendorn has started a GoFundMe page that has received more than $13,000 in generous donations so far. Unfortunately Bellin's road to a full recovery will be a long one that will require more surgery and physical therapy. In fact, his family has moved to Belgium to be there for him during his recovery. It could be a year or more until he walks again. The funds raised will go towards paying for medical expenses, loss of income and long term rehabilitation. Even though Bellin faces a difficult road, he remains positive. According to Hagendorn:
He is remaining extremely positive for his family and truthfully his positive energy is what makes Sebastien such a great guy and it's why he is loved by so many around him. He would never ask, but he needs financial support.
I attended Marist College, it's what brought me to the Hudson Valley from the Hartford area. I lived the next door over from Sebastian freshman year in the Chapaganat dorm on campus. He was one of the most welcoming people I met at Marist. Knowing what a great person he is, it's difficult to see him struggle. Any help you can give is much appreciated. If money is tight, sharing the message is also important.
