No, we're not jerking your chain. Doctors have performed the first success penis transplant.

Surgeons at Stellenbosch, a South African University performed the nine-hour operation in Cape Town in December.

The patient, a 21-year old man who had his penis amputated 3 years ago due to complications from a tradition circumcision, as reported by Huffington Post.

Professor Andre van der Merwe who led the operation, had this to say:

The unnamed man has made a full recovery since surgery and has regained all function in the newly transplanted organ. This is a very serious situation. For a young man of 18 or 19 years the loss of his penis can be deeply traumatic. He doesn’t necessarily have the psychological capability to process this. There are even reports of suicide among these young men.

 

Following the success of this operation, there are nine other patients signed up for the procedure. The procedure is an option for cases of penile cancer and severe erectile dysfunction.
