With the craft beer and hard cider craze continuing to spread like wildfire, it was only a matter of time before the soda companies tried to jump on the bandwagon.

The NY Post is reporting that Coca-Cola has introduced its first alcoholic beverage in its 125-year history. The Post says that the soda giant based the new drink on a Japanese alcoholic soda combination known as Chu-Hi. Basically, it's a little bit of booze mixed with a lemony tasting soda.

Of course, people have been mixing soda and alcohol forever, but this is a first for Coca Cola. There was, however, a time when Coke mixed something else in their soda..

Coca-Cola’s Japanese president Jorge Garduño said:

This is a canned drink that includes alcohol; traditionally, it’s made with a distilled beverage called shochu and sparkling water, plus some flavoring.

Right now, there are three different flavors of the new drink available in Japan. But if it catches on in the Far East, then who's to say the new boozy soda won't be making it's way to North American shores someday?
