A Red Ale Meets an IPA in This Unique Local Brew
John Eccles from Hyde Park Brewing Company has been making beer in the Hudson Valley for 19 years, and he still has a few new tricks up his sleeve.
This week, John brought a few pints of his India Red Ale into the studios for us to try during our Beer of the Week segment. Inspired by other IPA-hybreds like Black IPAs, John has combined the flavor profiles of a traditional hoppy pale ale and a sweet red ale.
Certainly not as hoppy as a standard IPA, the India Red Ale clearly takes it's lead from the lightly toasted ruby-red malt. It's caramel sweetness cuts through the bitterness and balances out the flavors of both styles to make a smooth, drinkable beer.
Here's John to explain more:
The India Red Ale is available on tap at the Hyde Park Brewing Company on Route 9 in Hyde Park, across from the FDR Estate.
