Two from the Hudson Valley are behind bars after police say they found fentanyl-laced heroin, known on the street as "Grey Death," packaged for sale.

On Friday, Casey A. Kurtz, 27, and Kyla Knowlton-Romanelli, 30, both of Highland, were arrested following a long-term investigation into sales of heroin laced with fentanyl in the Town of Lloyd, police say.

Kurtz was charged with the felonies of criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Ms. Knowlton-Romanelli was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

After Kurtz was taken into custody, Lloyd Town Police assisted URGENT with a probation check of Knowlton-Romanelli's room at a motel in Highland, which yielded over a half-ounce of fentanyl-laced heroin, known on the street as "Grey Death," packaged for sale, police say.

Authorities allegedly also found packaging materials, commonly used diluting agents, scales, a small number of diverted pharmaceuticals and a small quantity of marijuana.

Both were arraigned in the Town of Lloyd Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail.
