Could former Knick great Patrick Ewing be returning home to Madison Square Garden?

The leading scorer in New York Knicks history has expressed interest to become head coach of the franchise he spent fifteen years.

You know, this is a great fit for me. I have my number up there [in the Garden rafters]. I still live in the area. If I get an opportunity for an interview, I'd be happy.

Ewing is currently an assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets are one of four teams where Ewing has been an assistant coach over the past thirteen seasons. position.

While some fans may welcome a change, sources indicate that current Knick interim coach Kurt Rambis will eventually be named the permanent head coach. Rambis has gone 8-17 since stepping in for Dereck Fisher, who was fired by the organization on February 8.

The Knicks are currently 31-48 for the year, and will miss the playoffs for the third straight year. It's been quite a long stretch of bad luck for the team as New York has only made the playoffs four times since 2001.

Who knows? Maybe a change like this would be good?
