Janis Janis rose to fame as lead singer with Big Brother and the Holding Company in the 1960's. Known as "Pearl" to her friends, she was dubbed "The Queen of Psychedelic Soul", and was one of the main attractions at the Woodstock Music Festival. Popular singles included "Piece of My Heart" and "Me and Bobby McGee". We lost Janis from a drug overdose in October 1970 at the age of 27. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Janis Joplin No. 28 on their list of The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
