Thursday, September 3: Rock n Roll Birthdays

Happy Birthday today (Sept. 3) to Don Brewer. The drummer and co-lead singer of Grand Funk Railroad is 67. Also celebrating today is bassist/singer Doug Pinnick of King's X (65) and guitarist/founding Sex Pistols member Steve Jones is 60.

Don Brewer formed Grand Funk Railroad with Mark Farner and Mel Schacher in 1969. Rolling Stone Magazine editor David Fricke once said, "You cannot talk about rock in the 1970's without talking about Grand Funk Railroad!"

The band continues to tour and play about 40 shows a year. The band was on the road for their '45 Years of Grand Funk' Tour in 2014. The current lineup features Brewer along with Mel Schacher (bass), Max Carl (vocals), Tim Cashion (keyboards), and ex Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick on guitar.
