Cuomo said the decision was made as part of move to reduce density as New York grapples with at least 213 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including 121 in Westchester, 48 in New York City, 28 in Nassau, six in Rockland, six in Suffolk, two in Saratoga, and two in Ulster County.

"CUNY will help reduce the density in New York City. SUNY will help reduce the density in downstate New York," Cuomo said. "Downstate is where we have the highest density of cases now."

Cuomo indicated that some campuses' dates for moving to an online learning model may vary depending on the needs of the individual schools No information has been provided regarding tuition and housing refunds. SUNY and CUNY spring semesters typically end in May.
