Normally when we make early school dismissals here in the Hudson Valley, it is due to snow. It's not unusual to hear early dismissal information during the winter but it is a bit odd to hear about it at the start of the school year.

With a heat advisory in effect for the Hudson Valley until 7, that's the situation some area schools are facing today.  Due to the heat and humidity and lack of air conditioners in our schools, some districts have announced that they will be dismissing students early today or canceling after-school activities.

Here's the information we have now.

Hyde Park Central School District/St. Peter's/The Ridge School will dismiss their students on the following schedule. FDR at 11:38; HMS 12:17;  NPE 1:25;  RRS, NES, VAS 1:40; UPK @ HPE 12:15; and  St. Peters 12:30

Middletown City School District is canceling after-school due to the heat.

Due to a power outage, Minisink Valley School District will be dismissing their students early today. The Middle School and High School are dismissing at 10:30, Elementary and Otis are dismissing at 11:30, and all after-school activities are cancelled.

We will continue to update this list should any additional schools cancel activities or dismiss their students early. Be safe in this heat and drink plenty of water.
