I've got bad news if you were hoping to wake up Tuesday morning and tell your boss you weren't coming to work. That's because you didn't win Powerball. But for a reason, you probably didn't expect.

The record Powerball drawing was delayed Monday night and it remains delayed as of 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

"The draw has been officially delayed. One of the participating lotteries needs extra time to complete its security protocols," Powerball released in a statement at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. "Drawings can only be held once all 48 participating lotteries have met their security protocols, and the Multi-State Lottery Association has issued a statement to explain that one state was not ready on time."

The $1.9 billion Powerball was scheduled for 10:59 p.m.

"When the required security protocols are complete, the drawing will be performed under the supervision of lottery security officials and independent auditors,” the lottery said in a statement.

Powerball officials also confirmed it has taken extra time to process sales because there has been such a high demand for tickets, driven by the record jackpot.

It's unclear what state had the security issue. The Multi-State Lottery Association confirmed that it won’t be revealing which state failed to meet its security protocols.

“It’s against our policy to name the lottery that is experiencing the delay," Multi-State Lottery Association said in a statement.

It's unclear when the drawing will take place but officials hope for the drawing to take place sometime Tuesday morning.

"The draw is still set to go ahead as soon as the necessary security protocols have been completed. Stay with Powerball.net for all the details as they come in – go to the Winning Numbers page to see the results as soon as they are available," Powerball said in an update at 5:30 a.m.

The jackpot for Tuesday's Powerball is at least $1.9 billion, which would be the highest prize claimed in the Powerball's history.

The Powerball jackpot keeps growing because no one won the jackpot for Saturday's $1.6 billion jackpot. That would have also set a Powerball jackpot.

While no one won Saturday's jackpot 16 tickets sold across the United States, including one in the Empire State, won at least $1 million
