Police Use Narcan to Save Man From Heroin Overdose
The Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department used Narcan (Naloxone) to save a man from a heroin overdose.
Officers from the Village of Wappingers Falls responded to a call of an unconscious man outside. Once on the scene, officers found a 42-year old male unresponsive, not breathing with a shallow pulse lying outside on the sidewalk.
Officers conducted a quick investigation on scene and it was determined that the male was experiencing a heroin overdose. Officers administered 2 mg of Narcan (Naloxone), which had no effect on the male. Officers then administered another 2 mg, and the male started to become more responsive and began to breathe on his own.
Paramedics arrived and took over caring for the male. He was transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital for further care.
