One week before Halloween, a real-life horror story is unfolding in Pleasant Valley. Police say Charles Cole strangled his mother and then lived with her corpse in a local hotel for seven weeks.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that Cole is suspected of murdering his mother at the Pleasant Valley Motel on Route 44. They were both living there in August when the incident allegedly took place. Police say that Cole kept the body in the motel room for seven weeks before stuffing it into a plastic box.

Police say the mother's body was then taken on a road trip to South Carolina where it was dumped near Augusta in a deserted area off of I-95. Cole has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently behind bars with no bail. His wife, Ronalda Cole is also being charged. Authorities believe that she helped to transport Charles Cole's mother. She was sent to Dutchess County Jail, with bail set at $10,000.
